My specialism is
preparing children for grammar school entrance exams, with 25+ years of
experience. I teach all abilities and offer specialist tuition for
dyslexia and other special needs, struggling readers and writers, ESOL
(English for Speakers of Other Languages), as well as English for
university dissertations and Business English.
The
Lessons
Lessons are generally once a week for an hour with
feesbased on the number of tutees sharing a lesson.
I typically provide 1:1
tailored tuition at my home in Didsbury, though group sessions are also
available. After a thorough assessment, lessons are customized to individual
needs and learning styles, with clear, achievable goals. My tutees excel due to
my enthusiasm, fun lessons, and a multi-sensory approach, drawing my extensive
bank of learning resources, many of which I have designed to accommodate all
areas and individual needs.
Availability
During term-time, I generally tutor Tuesdays - Thursdays till 7 p.m.,
and limit sessions during school holidays.
Please
access my contact page HERE to enquire
about current availability.
Generally, I am fully booked with a waiting list for after school hours. Should
this be the case when you apply, I
will notify you when a spot opens up.

I hold an
up-to-date enhanced DBS certificate, available upon request, along with
my professional qualifications.
I
hold an extensive bank of differentiated learning resources and entrance exam papers for
leading grammar schools. My success rate in securing places for them is exceptional. Many families work with me
for several siblings over the years, and most of my tutees come through
word of mouth.
Adult Tuition
My adult tutees
seek to improve their English, whether for work, supporting
their children's literacy, or simply brushing up their own
abilities. Some require ESOL
(English for Speakers of Other Languages) tuition, while others, having
missed much of their early education, need Basic Literacy support. I also
help those with dyslexia in developing strategies to overcome learning
barriers. Additionally, I support tutees working on dissertations and
vocational courses, with a focus on planning, research, grammar,
punctuation, proofreading, and Harvard referencing.
Homework
I hold high
expectations for both my tutees and myself. Homework is an essential
part of my lessons as it reinforces learning, allows for practice, and
helps assess the tutee’s understanding to inform future lesson planning.
The amount of homework will be agreed upon from the outset, taking into
account the tutee’s age and other commitments. Naturally, the more
homework completed, the faster progress will be.
