I am an experienced teacher, trained in Primary Education and Further & Adult Education, with specialist postgraduate qualifications as listed above.

For nearly three decades, I have prepared children for grammar school entrance examinations, specialising in the English and Verbal Reasoning components. In recent years, this has included children as young as five preparing for junior school entrance. I also spent ten years teaching Basic Literacy to GCSE level in Further & Adult Education.

The majority of my tutees come to me from word of mouth (see Testimonials) due to my reputation for high-quality tutoring and my long-standing involvement in the local community, having lived in Didsbury for most of my adult life. I frequently work with families over a number of years, often teaching several siblings, particularly in preparation for grammar school entrance exams.

I am patient, understanding, and skilled at helping children feel comfortable and confident. Teaching is not merely my profession; it is my passion. When my daughter, who has Down’s syndrome, was born, I was determined to give her the best possible start. Before she began infant school, I taught her to read and write and helped her develop her early numeracy skills. Throughout her education, I supported and encouraged her to achieve far more than many people had expected. She has gone on to lead a fulfilling and active life, including playing the violin and piano, swimming and line dancing. That experience gave me valuable insight into the challenges faced by children with special educational needs and their families. As a result, I am often sought out by families of children with additional needs, as well as those who are more able or gifted.

 BA (Hons) in History and Psychology (2:1)

PGCE (FAHE)

PGC Adult Dyslexia Diagnosis and Support

PgDip in Special Needs in Education

Diploma in Modern Social History Research

 

Relevant Health and Safety Certificates

Availability

During term-time I generally tutor Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until 7 p.m., and restrict tuition to the minimum during school holiday periods.
