I am an experienced teacher, trained in both Primary Education and Further & Adult Education, with specialist postgraduate qualifications as listed above.

 

For nearly three decades, I have prepared children for grammar school entrance examinations, specialising in the English and Verbal Reasoning components. Over the past decade, this has also included preparing children as young as five for grammar school junior entrance examinations..

 

I also spent ten years in Further and Adult Education, teaching Literacy and English from Basic Literacy to GCSE level, as well as basic computing.

The majority of my tutees come through personal recommendation (see Testimonials), reflecting my reputation for high-quality tuition and my long-standing involvement in the local community, having lived in Didsbury for most of my adult life. Parents often tell me that I am patient, understanding, and skilled at helping children feel comfortable and confident. I frequently work with families over several years, teaching siblings in succession, particularly in preparation for grammar school entrance examinations.

Teaching is not merely my profession; it is my passion. When my daughter, who has Down’s syndrome, was born, I was determined to give her the best possible start. Before she started infant school, I had taught her to read and write and also given her a grounding in basic numeracy. After a lengthy battle, she became the first pupil with Down’s syndrome to be integrated into local mainstream education. She has far exceeded all expectations, playing both the violin and piano in an orchestra and giving regular solo performances on both instruments at concerts, as well as enjoying swimming, yoga and line dancing.

That experience gave me valuable insight into the challenges faced by children with special educational needs. As a result, I am often sought out by families of children with additional needs, as well as those whose children are particularly able or gifted. My determination to give my daughter the best possible opportunities reflects the same passion for teaching that I bring to my work with every child.

Availability

I am generally fully booked and operate a waiting list. If this is the case when you enquire, I will contact you as soon as a place becomes available.

 

During term-time, I generally tutor on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until 7 p.m., and keep tuition to a minimum during the school holidays.
